Causes of the Need

Objectives For Reaching the Goal

A. Reading

·1 Lack of tutoring opportunities for higher achieving students/No academies for them

·2 Lack of organizational structure (but Reading First has since addressed this need in 04-05)

·3 Lack of staffing to address at-risk students needs

·4 Lack of interventions at fourth and fifth grade level

·5 Out dated curriculum map that needs revisiting

B. Math

·1 Lack of materials or text at the beginning of the 04-05 school year

·2 Lack of targeting skills in core content

·3 Lack of reflecting and modeling open response answers in math

·4 Lack of applying skills across sub-domain areas

·5 Lack of problem solving strategies and skills.

·6 Out dated curriculum map

C. Science

·1 Out dated curriculum map

·2 Lack of application of skills in open response questioning

·3 Lack of training in science instructional areas in fourth grade level

D. Social Studies

·1 Ineffective implementation of social studies curriculum at 5th grade level

·2 Textbook that is not aligned to Core Content and Program of Studies

·3 Lack of additional resources to assist instruction

·4 Lack of professional development in sub-domain areas

·5 Out dated curriculum map

E. Arts & Humanities

·1 Teachers lack of knowledge in the content area

·2 Lack of prior knowledge of the arts

·3 Lack of instructional time in visual arts, drama, and dance for fifth grade students

·4 Out dated curriculum map

F. Practical Living/Vocational Studies

·1 Out dated curriculum map

·2 Lack of instruction in the area of jobs and careers

·3 Lack of focused instructional time

G. Writing

·1 Few on-demand practice opportunities, little supportive feedback, and under trained staff

·2 Lack of consistent training across all grade levels

·3 Out dated curriculum map

All students will receive appropriate, challenging, and effective instruction in ALL content areas which is designed to meet unique individual needs in order to maximize student learning.

Evidence of Causes

Measures of Objectives (Practice and Results)

According to CATS analysis:

·1 ESS students did not perform well in all content areas;

·2 Across all content areas Gifted/Talented students did not perform according to expectations;

·3 Number of novice decreased in some content areas;

·4 Females slightly outperformed males in all content areas;

According to teachers, they feel that instruction should be individualized according to the sub-domain areas in all content.

According to teachers, the curriculum map for our school needs to be updated and revised to address changing needs of the curriculum.
