Burnside Elementary Accelerated School is proud and honored to be a recipient of a Reading First federal grant under No Child Left Behind.  Under this grant, the school has crafted a comprehensive reading system for K-3 grades, which includes:

• Scott Foresman Reading as its core program,

• Breakthrough to Literacy as the supplemental program.

• Additional intervention programs, Reading Recovery and Great Leaps in Reading. 

This reading system is grounded in scientifically based reading research that addresses the needs of all children.

Burnside K-3 students will be tested three times a year using the following assessments:

• GRADE (Group Reading Assessment and Diagnostic Evaluation)
• DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills).
